Ho Ho Ho! Got yer long-johns on? We got another 1" rain before the freeze. The float in the guage froze at 1" and we have another 3/4" on top of it. Now it's 28.6 degees and we have ice everywhere. It was 27.5 when I got up this morning. The barn door, chicken coop doors, water trough and the dogs and chickens water were all frozen. They say the worst is yet to come. The firewood is starting to run low, too. Saturday, Deb went down the front steps after it stopped raining, to fill a couple of plastic jugs with rain water, and her feet got to the bottom before the rest of her did. Now her backside is a little "tender". I don't know why she had to get more water, we only have 18 gallons, already. I'm on call again. I'm only getting 2 out of every 4 weekends off, lately. I got screwed for X-mas, then off two weekends, on call this weekend, have some "B.S." training at the school this coming weekend, off two weekends, then on call again. My boss called me at noon yesterday, 30 degrees, and he was standing on his patio, drinking whiskey and smoking a cigar. His wife won't let him smoke him inside. Today is a federal holiday, so I'm off, but still on call. School is out, but Deb had to go in for 1/2 a day (teacher work day). Never mind that it was 27 degrees and ice everywhere. Only in Burnet!!!! If I get called out, I guess I can hitch up the dogs to a sled. It's supposed to be worse tomorrow, but I'm going in to work, anyway. The city policy is "if you can't make it to work due to "inclimate" weather, you have to use a vacation day. That means, when I go to this B.S. training next weekend, they won't have to pay overtime, just straight time. Now that's B.S.! That city is so screwed up! And then they wonder why they have such turnover. Oh! This training could have been done over X-mas break, spring break or during the summer, but they're making everybody do it on Saturday and Sunday, thus paying the whole department overtime. Don't THAT make sense! Well, Deb's home, time to rustle up some lunch. Everybody stay warm (and safe). Rick.

Happy blinkin' New Year! Same old same old. I hunted out at Brent's place on New Year Day. I saw five dove and one squirrel. I hunted at David Laine's place north of Lampasas on the previous weekend, same old story. Must be bad Kharma. I must have been a bad "mammer-jammer" in a former life. I figure I'll live to a ripe old age, because God ain't through jackin' with me. Halleluja, we finally got some rain. I got 1 & 1/4" last weekend, and then another 1 & 3/4" last night. I'll take every drop. I hope we get more real soon. It's gonna take a lot more before my creek starts running again. We had a get-together at the Younger's on New Years Eve. Enough food to feed an army. Met some new folks, real nice. Tina and Madison came out, too. Always glad to see them, and Tina's sausage balls. Everyone seemed to have a great time. We had our black-eyed peas, too. It's been pretty cool here, kept the fireplace cranked up. I can live with this, just thankful I don't live in Denver, Colorado. I see plenty of snow on the Discovery Channel, thank you. We started the New Year right, watched John Wayne in The War Wagon. I hope your New Year is a great one. I gotta go, for now. Love to all, Rick.
