Carter Cattle Company

Greetings, earthlings!!! Well, we got 1& 1/2" rain today. Gladly taken. I could us another 12-14". I'm beginning to wonder if my creek will ever come back. I went out on a meth lab with the task force, yesterday. First one in 2 years, but it's kind of like riding a bicycle. Luckily, I didn't have to put on the bunny suit. The "team" is a great bunch of guys (and gals). It was kinda like old homey day. I really miss the crew and the work. Wish I could afford to go back, but. . . Lampasas is looking for a narc, with good pay, BUT, it's a grant funded position. Been there and done that, NO FUN! Every year, you're in limbo, wondering if you'll get funded for the next year. That can get kinda intense if you have a mortgage. Meanwhile, back at the ranch(ette), the chickens have all but dried up. They always do until spring. Back to the old anemic looking eggs from the store. I gathered my deer stand from the back side of the property and have it in the barn. Had some wood ants in it. I doctored them and put a couple more windows in it. Gonna take it out to Brent's place this weekend. Younger wants to use it. If he pees in it like he did the other one last year, I'll shoot him in his pinkie toe. He's scared of the dark, so I put a light switch in it. It's not hooked up to anything, but maybe he'll feel a little more secure. :-) I guess that pretty much covers everything, for now. I'll keep you updated, and pray for rain. God bless John Wayne. Rick.

Hello, all. Back from Vegas. What a ride! I never knew a week could go by so fast. Had a great time. A week gave us enough time to sleep in when we wanted, kick back in the hot tub, leisurely meals, etc. I am collecting a metal dollar coin from each casino we visit. So far, I have 35, with 10 more to go. For some reason, I forgot to get one a Hooters when we ate there. Guess I was hungry (or distracted). Wish I was still there (Vegas). The craps tables are great when you have a hot shooter. Found a couple. Remember, never bet even odds, or the house has the advantage. Always be on the odds, like $6 will pay you $7, etc. We finally visited the Stardust Casino. Just in time, too. Starting Nov 1st, they are tearing it down. The final implosion will be televised live in January. What a land mark. The Paris Casino is absolutely georgeous. I like it more than the Venetian. The very high ceiling (4 stories?) looks just like an evening sky. You think it's only 6:30 - 7:00, then you look at your watch and it's after midnight. The high ceiling really helps get rid of that DAMN cigarette smoke. I still think it would be worth a fortune for someone to put in a smoke-free casino. I did see a few non-smoking blackjack tables. Had dinner/breakfast at Terrible's one night. Big mistake. The steak was like boot leather, I could only finish about 1/4 of it. We thought about renting a car, but the city busses run 24hrs and about every 20 minutes. $5 will get you a 24 hr pass all over the city. That way you don't have to worry about gas or parking. The cheapest gas we saw was $2.69. All the animals were still alive when we got back. There was some pieces of newspaper scattered about. While we were gone, we got 1 1/2 " rain. We came hom on Saturday, and on Sunday we got another 1 1/2". I'll take all I can get. We flew out there on Continental, without a hitch. As usual, coming back on American, we missed out connecting flight in Dallas, and were stranded for a couple of hours. I swear, American Airlines can not make a connecting flight, if there is less than 2 hours between them. From now on, if American is the only way I can get there, I'll stay home. I wouldn't have used them this time, except we had about $650 in coupons we needed to use before they expired. Some of that was because they stranded us in Dallas the last time. Are we noticing a pattern? Well, back to the grind! God, I need to retire!!!!!!

I'm back. Younger yelled at me for not updating, so here I am. Not much to report. Chickens have pretty much dried-up, but they usually do around this time of year. We leave this Saturday for a week in Las Vegas (Lost Wages). Come back next Saturday. Younger is supposed to feed the critters while we are gone. He better get over to the house and meet the dogs before we leave. He only has tonight and Friday. I have to mow at Inks on Thursday evening. Time to let the garden go. It's just about quit on us, anyway. When I get back, I'll till it under for next year. Fresh veggies are so much better tasting than the stuff you get in the store that was picked green and shipped half way around the world, with who-knows-what sprayed on it. The place is still high and dry. "They" are talking about an El Nino, man do we need it. Well, my quasi-vacation will be over, soon. My boss comes back off sick leave on the 17th. Things have been running SO smooth! Jesus, I wish I could retire. Brent just laughs and says "Better you than me that has to put up with him!" Deb's dad goes to Austin on Thursday for a pacemaker and defibrilator implant. She'll go in to be with him and her sister will come down from Corpus, as well. I probably won't have another update until we return from Vegas. Ya'll take care and pray for rain. Rick
