Hidee-ho! No sign of the snake, yet. Guess he heard about the rat-shot ammo. Still dry as Arizona. They say we might have a slight chance this weekend. I hope this place looks like Maryland this weekend. I got the "chili" again. I'm on call all 4th of July weekend, through Monday. BJ starts call on Tuesday (the 4th) so she gets the holiday pay. God, I wish I could retire. Younger's wife had emergency appendectomy, yesterday. Jim said she's doing OK, but they want to keep a close eye on her for a couple of days.. The doc said she was less than 24 hrs from rupturing. Woo-ha! We all wish her well. Knock on wood, I still have everything I came with, except hair and teeth. We refill our three hummingbird feeders every evening, and they are empty when we come home the next day. They will be lined up, looking in the kitchen window, like they are patting their feet, waiting. We have in excess of 50. We also have painted buntings (beautiful, look on internet for pic), gold finches, cardinals, blue birds (not blue jays), whipper-wills, etc. I remember back in the old days, when it used to rain........ Peace and Love, Rick.

Well, I spoke too soon. About 3:00 this morning the dogs started barking. Finally, at 3:30, I got up on turned on the back porch light. There was a 3+ foot rattle snake laying next to the house, under the carport. I went to the barn and got a shovel. I got one good lick in before it slid under the underpinning and under the house. My shovel is now retired. I went to Wal-Mart and bought some rat-shot. No more mister nice guy! Now, I just have to find it under the house. Heeerrree, snakey, snakey. Hope I find it, before it finds me. Not much else happening. Hotter'n hell. Can't buy rain. Brent's dad at Big Spring got an inch and a half last night. Looks like it made it as far and Brownwood before it fizzled. More later, Rick.

Back again. Deb let another chicken out of the coop. What can I say...... Rain all around us, but I can't buy a drop. Got the dogs contained again (for now). They aren't real happy about it, either. Got to see the girls over the weekend. All are fine. The A__hole has Valerie working in a Mexican bar in Uvalde. Maybe one day she'll wake up. She won't listen to us. For a bit of good new, Vanessa is at least TALKING about maybe having a baby. This has Deb on a cloud. Just wish they lived closer to us. We went out to Deb's dad's place at Buchanan Dam last Sunday. Had a nice visit. Kit and Steve stopped in on their way home from Dallas. They are doing well, also. Not much else to report, no snakes or anything. I'll try to write more as it becomes available. Pray for rain. Rick

Howdy, neighbors. Not a lot to update. Wednesday was Deb's birthday (I'm not allowed to say which one). I tried to take her to Joe's Crab Shack, but she said she didn't feel up to it. So we had some left over ribs. I almost broke a tooth, hit a bone. Still loose & sore. Vanessa and Shane are coming in tomorrow. Val & boys should come by on Sunday. I hope we are all stuck inside watching it rain. Man, are we dry. Reminds me of West Texas. Dogs are still getting out, guess I'll get us and patch more fence in the morning. I'm not far from knocking them in the head and telling God they died. Cows and donkeys are all fine. Chickens are laying and no more snakes. Not much else to report. I'll check in later. Peace, love and crabs to all. Rick.

Alright, ALRIGHT!!! I've been catching "flack" from a few for not updating. Last Thursday, after work, I had gone to mow my yard at Inks Lake. While I was gone, Deb went out to gather eggs and, lo and behold, she found another (4th) chicken snake in the one of the coops. Luckily, Brent and Tracy were in Burnet when she called. They (and the boys) came out and rescued her. I don't know why she called anybody. I'm sure it would have still been there an hour later, when I got back home. Oh well. Spent last Saturday morning patching the fence, again, trying to keep the dogs in. Worked for about 4 days. Guess I'll do some more, tomorrow. Last time, I fed the chiggers. Twelve at last count, mainly at the waist line. Sure has been hot. May have a possible hurricane brewing in the Carribean. Jeez, I hope we get some rain out of it. If we don't get some "real" rain, soon, I guess I'tt have to take the cows to the sale. Deb has a birthday coming up next Wednesday (Flag Day, too). I guess I can take her to the cow sale in Lampasas. ho-ho. Guess I had better get to work. I hope the next update includes a report on how much rain we got. "Peace, Love and Crabs."
